3D Printing Services

Purpose

The library endeavors to offer access to new and emerging technologies to inspire patrons to create, design and innovate.  These guidelines establish how and under what circumstances the public may use the library’s 3D printers.

Guidelines

The library’s 3D printers are a staff mediated service and are available on a first come, first served basis.

The East Lansing Public Library reserves the right to refuse production of any content at any time at the discretion of library staff.  Examples of specific content that will not be produced includes, but is not limited to:

  1. The print must fit within the printer’s print volume.
  2. The printers may only be used for lawful purposes and be for objects appropriate for a public library.
  3. Printed objects must not infringe upon any third party’s intellectual property rights.
  4. Objects must not be illegal nor can they be construed as having the intent to harm.
  5. The library reserves the right to refuse any print request at the discretion of library staff.

By submitting content or objects, the user agrees to assume all responsibility for, and shall hold the library harmless in, all matters related to patented, trademarked, or copyrighted materials.

The East Lansing Public Library is not responsible for any damage, loss, or security of data arising from the use of its computers, equipment or network, nor for the functionality or quality of content produced on the 3D printer.  Refunds for 3D prints are only available at the discretion of library staff.

Only designated library staff, volunteers and patrons that have satisfactorily completed required library training will have hands-on access to the 3D printer.  Patrons, library volunteers and library staff who have not completed required training may still request print jobs by submitting appropriate files to the library for printing.
