1) Call to Order
Dodgson called the meeting to order at 4:33pm.

2) Roll Call
All Trustees were present. Also in attendance were City Council Liaison Erik Altmann, Friends Treasurer Toba Kaplowitz, Head of Customer Experience Jason Shoup and Library Director Kristin Shelley.

3) Opening
A) Approval of April 18, 2018 Meeting Minutes
Zaagman moved.
Wilkinson seconded.
All in favor.
Motion carried.

B) Approval of Current Meeting Agenda
Smith moved.
Cervenak seconded.
All in favor.
Motion carried.

4) Communications
A) Audience: none

B) Written Correspondence
Shelley shared an email thanking her for meeting with the Azim Premji Foundation visitors from India.

5) Reports
A) City Council Liaison Report
Shelley shared the City News Release “East Lansing City Council Adopts FY19 Budget, Cuts to Services Discussed at Meeting.”
Altmann reported on
• City Council decisions for the Fiscal Year 2019 budget
• City Council discussions for the Fiscal Year 2020 budget
• Vote to place new income tax proposal on the August 7, 2018 Primary Election ballot
• Updates on development projects

B) Friends of the East Lansing Public Library Report
Kaplowitz provided updates on the Friendshop and eBay sales.

6) Old Business:
A) Update on logo redesign quotes and discussion
Shelley informed the board that AnInterval was chosen as the vendor for the library logo redesign and branding guidelines. She and Executive Assistant Jennifer Amormino had a phone conference with Dave Graw, owner of AnInterval, in early May.

7) New Business:
A) 2018 Summer Reading Program discussion
Shoup informed the board that the 2018 Summer Reading Program Libraries Rock begins on June 18 and will have similar activities and prizes for patrons of all ages.
Shelley added that the kick-off is on June 18 and includes a concert from The Earth Angels.

B) 2018 Veteran’s Day holiday and closure discussion
Shelley reminded the board that for 2018, the Veteran’s Day observed holiday is Monday, November 12. She asked the board to consider whether they want to also close the library on Sunday, November 11. The topic will be discussed again at a later date.

8) Library Reports
A) Financial Report
Shelley provided a written Financial Report. Discussion included the library’s Fund Balance.

B) Director’s Report
Shelley provided a written Director’s Report. Discussion included:
• Books, Bites and Bids
• Murder on Shades Mountain local author event and book launch
• The Hyena Scientist local author event and book launch
• Library of Michigan Foundation’s 2018 Night for Notables
• Testifying in front of the Health Policy Committee of the Michigan State Senate
• Launch and statistics of the Express Collection

C) President’s Report: none

9) Announcements
Shelley reminded the board that the June meeting is one week early on June 13, 2018.
