We’re thrilled to announce that the East Lansing Public Library's new Plant Propagation Station is officially up and growing!
So, what exactly is a Propagation Station? We're glad you asked!
Located right on top of the Holds Shelf, our new station is a place for plant lovers to share, swap, and grow. The idea is simple: take a plant cutting, leave a plant cutting. Over time, we hope this creates a thriving, ever-changing collection of cuttings that our community can enjoy.
How It Works:
-
🌱 Take a cutting, leave a cutting — It’s a perpetual plant swap based on the honor system.
-
🫙 Jars sit in a waterproof tray to prevent spills (thank you, Circ desk staff, for your support!)
-
🏷️ Labels are provided so you can identify what you’re sharing — just place the label on the cutting itself, not the jar.
-
🌿 A spray bottle is available to help wrap your cutting in a damp paper towel for safe transport home.
No need to ask permission or check in with staff — the station is completely self-serve and community-driven.
Want to Contribute?
-
Bring in healthy houseplant cuttings that are suitable for water propagation.
-
Use one of the provided tags to label your cutting with the plant’s name.
-
No cutting to share? That’s okay! Take one home and bring something back next time.
Whether you’re a seasoned plant parent or a total beginner, the Propagation Station is for everyone. Stop by, take a look, and maybe take a cutting home. Let’s grow something beautiful, together.
