JOB SUMMARY

Provides a reliable, accurate, responsive, efficient, safe, and secure information systems platform for library service delivery. Manages data and voice network operations including staff and public computing and application software, as well as specific facility, meeting room and materials management systems. Responds to staff and patron calls for help, troubleshoots and solves hardware and software problems, monitors overall system performance, implements improvements, and works with the management team to develop long-range technology plans. ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS

  1. Develops, documents, and implements network administration policies and processes
  2. Maintains and troubleshoots hardware, software, and network issues
  3. Ensures system integrity, reliability, responsiveness, security, and compliance with library policies, e.g., Internet use
  4. Maintains a regular backup schedule and off-site backup storage with technology vendors and City IT
  5. Manages help desk and email questions and functions by cataloging and responding to requests
  6. Ensures that systems servicing library customers are first priority for trouble calls
  7. Assists staff with system and application software training and development needs
  8. Works with vendor and library staff on web development issues
  9. Develops and implements technology plans
  10. Deploys sound project management practices including goal/problem identification and decision analyses
  11. Prepares RFPs, bids and requests written quotes, using City of East Lansing purchasing guidelines
  12. Manages IT and computer budget
  13. Acts as supervisor in charge
  14. Oversees library technology
  15. Administers the library's Integrated Library System (ILS) and manages other automated systems
  16. Administers, with the Circulation Supervisor, the circulation module
  17. Determines, with the management team, what systems to be developed and implemented by circulation
  18. Develops, implements, and maintains, with the Director, systems that will enable and support simple and efficient workflows that will enable library staff to provide exceptional customer service
  19. Trains staff on technology
  20. Works with Circulation Supervisor to maintain self-service equipment, holds software and reservation software
  21. Maintains and trouble shoots technology equipment in library
  22. Maintains documentation on Technology Services, procedures, and trouble shooting
  23. Develops technology, maker programs and workshops
  24. Uses established systems and procedures to respond to, schedule and manage patron inquiries of library technology, digital services, Maker Studio, website, training, and questions
  25. Creates training documentation, workshop outlines, handouts, displays and demonstrations to support technology, STEAM, and maker programs
  26. Works with programming staff to support STEAM and technology programming
  27. Works with Technology Services staff to support Sierra and other systems and technologies throughout the library
  28. Researches and implements new technology that assists the library in providing information to our patrons efficiently and effectively
  29. Develops and maintains a good working relations hip with the City of East Lansing IT Department and library vendors
  30. Develops annual IT budget documents with Director
  31. Creates content and administration of library website and Intranet
  32. Write and administers grants for technology equipment, programs, and projects
  33. Develops and presents workshops on library services for staff, patrons, state, and local levels
  34. Other duties as assigned
  35. Satisfactory criminal background check

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training and/or Experience

  1. Bachelor's degree, preferable in computer/technology fields
  2. Experience with Integrated Library Systems, preferably Innovate Sierra
  3. Customer service experience and exceptional customer service skills
  4. Experience with training, teaching, and coaching staff
  5. Experience with web technologies, social media, and other technologies
  6. Experience with meeting and programming platforms such as Zoom, Teams, WebEx, StreamYard
  7. Experience with 3D printing, 3D scanning technology and other maker technology
  8. Experience with the maker movement including technologies, practices, trends, and methods

Equipment Operation Knowledge:

Servers, PCs, printers, library automation system, scanners, RFID scanners, self-check machines, self-check equipment, building systems, application software specific hardware

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Master's degree in Library and Information Science
  2. Experience with Windows and Apple operating systems and iOS and Android mobile devices
  3. Experience with Content Management Systems

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  1. Ability to sit and use computer for extended periods and operate standard office equipment
  2. Ability to lift and move up to fifty (50) pounds
  3. Ability to push book trucks with up to 150 pounds of materials on them
  4. Ability to perform repeated reaching, bending, and squatting
  5. Travel by automobile is required
  6. Ability to crouch and kneel to reach equipment near the floor

WORKING CONDITIONS

  1. Majority of work performed in library environment and East Lansing community
  2. Requires schedule changes before, during and after scheduled programs
  3. Requires evenings and weekends
  4. Requires periodic participation and attendance at events and training
