In 2004, the Friends embarked on a campaign to raise funds for a sculpture to honor the memory and commitment of our long-time board member and special friend, Cheryl Spears. The community response to the project was incredibly heartwarming as people contributed their financial and human resources. The outcome was a magnificent work of art titled "Who's Watching Whom? by Jane DeDecker of Loveland, Colorado that will forever grace the lawn of the Public Library and bring joy to many future generations.
Besides the Friend's Board of Directors, others who contributed to the success of the project include family and friends of Cheryl, John Spears, Christman Corporation, Beggar's Banquet softball women's softball team, Sylvia Marabate and the City of East Lansing.
