Gonzaga vs. West Virginia

Representing Gonzaga University is Wilderness by Lance Weller. It has been 35 years since the Civil War ended, and veteran Confederate soldier, Abel Truman, is about to make one final journey back to the life he once led. Traveling on foot through the Olympic Mountains, Abel ruminates over the traumas of war and the aftermath of his experiences, encountering others who were equally affected along the way. Beautifully written, Wilderness is a story that will stay with the reader long after the final page has been read.

The Truth According to Us by Annie Barrows (co-author of The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society) represents West Virginia. It's 1938, and Layla Beck has just relocated to Macedonia,

West Virginia, a tiny town that is worlds away from her previous life as the daughter of a wealthy senator in Delaware. Forced to find a job after she refuses to marry the man her father has chosen for her, Layla is commissioned to write an account of the history of Macedonia, and soon finds herself boarding a room at the home of the eccentric Romeyn family in town. Macedonia may be a small town, but there are many secrets hidden in its past, and Layla is about to uncover them.
